LEON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) — All Leon County Schools summer band camps have been suspended for the 2020-2021 academic year.

Leon County Schools made the announcement via social media Thursday morning.

They say, after high school principals, band directors, and district personnel met to discuss the safety of marching band camps on Monday, they agreed to suspend all band camps for the 2020-2021 academic year.

Right now, the decision only impacts summer camps and does not include regularly scheduled rehearsals that occur after the start of the school year.

"Leon County Schools continues to place the safety of our students throughout the planning stages for the 2020-2021 school year as the highest priority. It is the commitment of LCS to be mindful of all necessary safety precautions and assess all known risks when making decisions regarding camps, activities and actions of normally scheduled programs," school officials wrote in a Facebook post.
