VALDOSTA, Ga. — Early Friday morning on Valdosta State University's campus, local law enforcement and medical professionals performed an active shooter situation and emergency response training.
The simulated active shooter took place at Nevins Hall and lasted for a couple hours.
Afterward, law enforcement and participants gathered to talk about what they experienced and what they learned. The drill also tested VSU's emergency alarm system.
"Obviously we want to keep our campus community safe and take care of our students and our surrounding community as well, and working with our partnering agencies. It is important for that inter operations, so we can actually address the threats collectively and make us a stronger community," said Lt. Rob Goley with the Valdosta State Police Department.
Six law enforcement agencies participated.
VSU is on spring break, so there was little disruption on campus.
