TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — With Christmas just three weeks away, Christmas trees are flying off of lots everywhere, but in Tallahassee, many veterans may not be able to take one home due to financial concerns.
That's why Holidays for Heroes will be giving away Christmas trees for veterans at The Hooch at Lake Ella on Saturday at 9:00 a.m.
Phillip Todd, who organized the giveaway, says he wants to thank veterans for keeping us safe.
"Our veterans don't always get the recognition they deserve," said Todd. "Sometimes they're looked down upon, but they're the men and women that step up and are willing to do these things that a lot of people don't want to do. Just being able to give back to these people that were willing to give everything for us, it just makes it totally worth it."
Each tree will come with a tree stand, and most will come with a box of lights.
There will be 20 trees available at the VFW in Perry, Florida.
All veterans and active duty service members are invited to bring a Christmas tree home.
