Former clerk accused of embezzling $5,800 from Grady County

GRADY COUNTY, Ga. (WTXL) — A woman has been arrested for embezzling thousands of dollars from a local county during her three year stint as the county clerk.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation has arrested Carrie Croy, who was previously employed as the Grady County Clerk.

She is accused of stealing approximately $5,800 between April 2015 and April 2018 from Grady County while she was employed. They say Croy, 52, turned herself into the local jail for one count of theft by taking.

The GBI was initially began a criminal investigation into the accusations in November 2018 by request of South Georgia Circuit District Attorney Joe Mulholland.

GBI officials say once the case is complete, it will be turned over to DA Mulholland.
