TALLAHASSEE, Fla. — Another year, another push to move the state capital.

A Florida lawmaker wants to take Tallahassee out of the picture.

Here we go again, right? This time, a state senator wants the Legislature to approve an official study that looks into moving the capital from Tallahassee to Orlando.

If you look at Florida's history, this is nothing new. In fact, we did a story about this last year when another lawmaker was pushing for the move.

The idea is to relocate the capital more than 250 miles south to Orlando to make it easier for people to get to.

Tallahassee Mayor John Dailey says he's confident the capital is staying right here.

"Tallahassee is rich in history and culture, and for 195 years, we've either been the capital of the territory or of the state of Florida itself. Tallahassee is the state capital. I don't see it moving any time soon," said Dailey.

Orlando's Mayor Buddy Dyer is also talking about the bill. Here's part of what he said, "We also understand several similar efforts like this have failed in past legislative sessions. However, if the legislature chooses to explore this through a comprehensive study, we would certainly be interested in learning of their results."

We reached out to State Senator Kevin Rader. He's the one behind this bill.

He wasn't available to speak on Thursday. His bill does not have a companion in the House.
