TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) - — Florida Department of Health is reporting another day of more than 8,000 new coronavirus cases.
DOH reported 8,530 new cases across the state Sunday. This new data brings the total number of confirmed positive cases in Florida to 141,075.
DOH is reporting 167 new cases overnight in Leon County. The median age for the person testing positive still remains 23-years-old. In Gasdsen, cases went up by 10. The median age there is 37. Franklin County did not see a change. There, the total remains at six cases.
Governor Ron DeSantis held a news conference in Pensacola addressing the numbers. The governor said cases have gone up because the state is now providing more testing than it did in March, when the pandemic began.
DeSantis also asked everyone to continue to follow CDC guidelines, especially people from 18 to 29, where the positivity rate continues to climb. The percent positive as of Sunday morning is now 12.3 percent, according to DOH.
