TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — Personal protective equipment, or PPE, shortages are being felt throughout the country but some local, long-term care facilities will soon have much needed masks, gloves, and gowns.
Florida Assisted Living Association represents more than 650 assisted living facilities and adult family care homes, and has received numerous donations, but the largest came Thursday afternoon when United Healthcare Community Plan dropped off 10,000 washable cloth masks.
"It's a step forward obviously," said Veronica Catoe, the CEO of the Florida Assisted Living Association. :We represent over 30,000 beds, so 10,000 masks is a move forward. It doesn't cover an entire basis but it will provide them with something they can either share with residents that are going on doctors appointments or they can give to their staff who are going to and from work."
The masks were created by Hanes and can be washed up to 20 times.
