LEON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) — Troopers say a 24-year-old man is dead after being hit by a vehicle and flying through a windshield during an overnight crash on Monday.

According to Florida Highway and Patrol, the accident happened Monday around 12:30 a.m. on U.S. Highway 90 and Wadesboro Road in Leon County.

FHP says a Mercedes Class C was traveling eastbound on U.S. Highway 90. While a man was walking in an unknown direction on the south shoulder in the area.

The man then entered the roadway and began walking in a northerly direction on U.S. Highway 90 which caused the vehicle to hit him.

Due to the impact of the accident, troopers say the crash victim flew through the front windshield into the passenger compartment of the Mercedes.

The vehicle then came to a controlled stop.

After flying thought the windshield and landing inside the car, FHP says the victim succumbed to his injuries on scene.

The victim was identified as 24-year-old Zachary Winston Sheldon.

The driver did not suffer from any injuries during the crash.

At this time, authorities say charges for the driver are pending investigation.
