FHP investigating fatal crash in Alachua County

ALACHUA COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) — Troopers are investigating after a fatal crash temporarily shut down State Road 20 on Friday in Alachua County.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, the accident happened Friday around 12:30 p.m. in the median break of State Road 20 and County Road 234.

FHP says a sedan with one passenger was traveling west on State Road 20 at the median break of State Road 20 and County Road 234 while a pickup truck traveling north on County Road 234 was approaching a stop sign.

The truck went through the intersection, hitting the sedan's side with the front of the truck, as stated in the report.

According to the report, the truck came to final rest facing south on County Road 234. The sedan came to final rest facing northeast on the north shoulder of State Road 20 in the ditch.

FHP reports that the sedan's 22-year-old driver was pronounced deceased at UF Health Shands in Gainesville but has not released the individual's identity.

The passenger in the sedan was critically injured, FHP says.

The report also states that the truck driver has serious injuries and a passenger in the truck has minor injuries.

The westbound lanes of State Road 20 were closed for several hours.

This crash is still currently under investigation.
