TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — Some people who work at FAMU say they are not getting paid enough to take care of themselves and their families.
More than a dozen non-instructional employees were at Thursday morning's Board of Trustees meeting. They stood in support of what they say is fairer pay and are part of a local union chapter that is calling for a raise.
The chapter president asked the trustees for, "a hand-up, not a hand-out." He said employees are having to pick which bills to pay each month and they need a livable wage.
"We've been complaining for the longest, and now, it's time for many of us as union members to step up and try to make that change, help our fellow union members, you know, stand up and fight," said Andre Crumity, the president of AFSCME Local 3343.
The chapter president says about 500 non-instructional employees are part of the bargaining agreement.
The union will not strike as part of its push for a raise.
