TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) — The family of Dan Markel pushing back over Katherine Magbanua's request for bond.

Magbanua is one of three suspects charged in the Florida State professor's murder. She's been in jail since 2016.

Last month, she requested to be released on bond until her next trial.

In response, Markel's family wrote a five page letter to the court.

In it they say she's a flight risk, considering she's had the financial means to pay for a private attorney over the past four years.

They also think she could be influenced or threatened by Markel's former in-laws, the Adelsons.

Magbanua's next court date is scheduled for December.

One of the convicted suspects and Magbanua's ex-boyfriend, Sigfredo Garcia, is serving a life sentence for Markel’s murder while Luis Rivera, who was also convicted in Markel's murder, is serving a 19-year prison sentence as part of a plea deal in exchange for his testimony against Magbanua and Rivera.
