JACKSON COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) — The Jackson County Sheriff's Office is warning residents about a social security and arrest warrant scam.

JCSO said several residents have complained about receiving calls from the Social Security Administration, claiming their information has been comprised and that a warrant is out for their arrest.

Through an investigation, deputies found that the calls aren't coming from the agency and may be spoofed from overseas.

Deputies say legitimate agencies will never ask for your information over the phone and if there is an arrest warrant issued, the federal government will not call to tell you that.

JCSO says residents should never give out any personal information over the phone.

Authorities have opened a case with the Attorney General's Office and are encouraging people to call them to report similar cases.
