GADSDEN COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) — A long time veteran of the Gadsden County Sheriff's office is being remembered by friends and family.

Captain William Moore died last week at Tallahassee Memorial Healthcare after a serious illness.

Those who worked with him say he was a fighter with a servant's heart, even in moments of sickness. Janice Tyus says he was one of a kind.

"He was one of those gentle souls," said Tyus, who's with the Gadsden County Sheriff's office. "He was very easy to talk to he will be greatly missed. It’s a loss... a true true loss for our department."

The sheriffs office says he was a soft spoken man who lead with compassion.

They just don’t make them like that. You know what I mean... it’s hard to comprehend a replacement," Tyus explained. "It’s just he will never be replaced someone else might take a spot but he was just one of those that just... he made a mark."

Captain Moore's viewing is until 6 p.m. Friday at Williams Funeral Home in Quincy.

His funeral service is Saturday and will be held at the National Guard Armory at 11 a.m.
