City of Tallahassee will begin phasing in select recreational activities on May 8

TALLAHASSEE, Fla.(WTXL) — The City of Tallahassee says it will begin phasing in some recreational activities that do not involve large crowds.

Beginning on Friday, May 8, the city will reopen access to recreational activities at several local parks and centers.

While these activities are reopening, officials are encouraging residents to continue practicing physical distancing while enjoying these activities.

Safety protocolswill be in place for each activity to further protect the health of participants. Wearing masks and washing hands frequently are also encouraged.

Specific details related to these activities are listed below:

Golf at Jake Gaither and Hilaman

Both of the City’s golf courses will open for restricted play from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. daily. During restricted play, only one person per cart will be permitted.

Players are asked to not touch or remove flags and to bring their own water, hand sanitizer and scoring pencils. There will be at least 15 minutes required between tee times, and tee times for Hilaman Golf Course must be reserved online here.

Tennis at Forestmeadows and tennis/pickleball at Tom Brown Park

Select tennis courts at Forestmeadows and select tennis and pickleball courts at Tom Brown Park will be open with limited hours for reservation play only.

Reservations for both locations can be made by calling 850-891-4940 seven days a week between 8 a.m. and 1 p.m. Court rental fees apply at Forestmeadows; there is no fee at Tom Brown Park.

Players should avoid congregating before and after play and are asked to adhere to safety protocols posted at each facility.

Outdoor basketball at Jack McLean and LeVerne Payne

The outdoor basketball courts at the Jack McLean and LeVerne Payne community centers will be open only from 2-8 p.m. daily. Courts will be limited to three participants per goal for individual 30-minute practice and shoot-arounds only.

Pick-up games will not be permitted at this time. Court monitors will be onsite to ensure proper social distancing.

Swimming at Trousdell Aquatics Center 50m pool

The 50m pool at the Trousdell Aquatics Center will be open by reservation only. Reservations will be accepted in hourly blocks for one person per lane for lap swimming or water walking only.

To make reservations, call 850-891-4903, Monday through Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. and Saturday and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Swimmers will be screened via contactless thermometer and questionnaire prior to entry.

Locker rooms and indoor shower areas will not be available.
