THOMASVILLE, Ga. — A new employer has just opened its doors in Thomasville.
The New York based company, Check-Mate Industries, held a ribbon cutting on Tuesday.
The company will make handgun magazines, which isn’t just a good thing for gun lovers. When it’s fully staffed, Check-Mate is supposed to bring about 200 jobs to the area.
The rifle magazine hub will be in the old Caterpillar building.
Check-Mate leaders took to the podium with ambitious words of growth, already saying they want to expand to nearby buildings in years to come.
Governor Brian Kemp says he has no doubt Thomasville will thrive.
“I have no doubt our highly skilled manufacturers will make Check-Mate work," said Gov. Kemp.
Check-Mate is investing about $16 million in improvements to the building to make it work.
The company says they’ll start working with 60 employees in September. They expect to fill the remaining 170 positions in the next three years.
