FRANKLIN COUNTY, Fla.(WTXL) — The Franklin County Sheriff's Office says two people were killed in a house fire on St. George Island Wednesday night.

In addition to the two fatalities one other person was transported by helicopter to University of Florida Health Shands hospital with critical injuries.

The two residents killed in the fire were a man and a woman that were very well known around the county.

Authorities say the home was completely destroyed and ruled a total loss.

At this time, the Fire Marshal's office and FCSO are still investigating the cause of fire.

In a Facebook live video Thursday, Sheriff A.J. Smith stated that more information will be released about the fire as authorities continue to investigate.

He also gave an update about multiple incidents that happened across the county this week. Including the tragic incident involving the St. George Island first responder who died while trying to save a swimmer's life.

Later in the video, Sheriff Smith thanked and showed his appreciation to all the first responders for their consistent hard work.
