(WTXL) - Local law enforcement not only wants you to be safe when using fireworks, but also on the water.

Rangers with the Department of Natural Resources are keeping a close watch on boaters for safety and for those violating the rules.

Rangers say for most part over the weekend people stuck to the rules.

Only three people were caught boating under the influence.

A frequent violation was children under the age of 12 not wearing life vests, something the DNR says is extremely important especially during holiday weekends.

Rangers expect the next few days to be the busiest and remind people to make a safety a priority.
