TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - You may see a sea of orange Friday, likely in honor of National Gun Violence Awareness Day.

The color was chosen because of its vibrancy and noticability.

The state capitol is even in on the action as it it will go orange on Friday.

Local group, Moms Demand Action, is inviting others to join in with this year's theme: Use Your Voice.

Saturday, they'll host open mic and chalk art contests at the Anita Favors Thompson Plaza.

"It's going to be really meaningful to see thousands and thousands of people all over America joining together to talk about the impact of gun violence and to talk about how we're going to move forward and make a difference in the coming months and years to end the epidemic because it can happen and we can do it," said Beth Dumond, Moms Demand Action Against Gun Violence Volunteer.

The event begins Saturday morning at 10 a.m.
