TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A local Anglican church has been named a new cathedral for the Gulf Atlantic Diocese in North America.
St Peter's Anglican Church celebrated that distinction Sunday and unveiled a new road sign and a community prayer.
The dean of St. Peter's Church says becoming a cathedral is a big deal.
"Becoming a cathedral does two things," he said. "It affirms and celebrates all these wonderful people who work so hard and gave so much to create this church. It also calls us to a greater responsibility. That we're no longer just focused on our parrish and our missional efforts but were focusing on reaching far beyond us."
Along with helping better the community, becoming a cathedral also functions as the seat of the bishop.
