TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) -- Thursday, local business people were given a unique opportunity within the Leon County School System.

Those chosen to participate in the "Principal for a Day" program were able to shadow school principals for an eye-opening experience. WTXL went to Roberts Elementary School for a closer look at one woman's journey as a principal for a day.

Most days, Kim Koegel is a senior manager at Accenture Consulting, but today she was able to see what it's like to be the principal of Roberts Elementary.

Koegel, alongside Principal McFarland, was able to greet students as they were dropped off, sit in a number of meetings, observe teachers and interact with kids in the classroom, all before noon!

The second half of her day involved lunch duty, and of course sitting in more meetings, one of which was about a possible new curriculum for a new reading program. Koegel was especially excited about this meeting because it allowed her to see what McFarlund and her team were doing to help the children prepare for the tests at the end of the year.

The principal and Koegel have interacted in the past, but nothing quite like this.

"I've had the opportunity to interact with her over the years as a parent of two daughters who have come up through Roberts," said Kim Koegel, the senior manager at Accenture Consulting. "To work side by side with her and to see how she interacts with the teachers, or pops into a meeting to weigh in on a new curriculum, it's really eye opening."

Koegel had one word to describe her day through this experience, and that was "BUSY!" She stated that McFarland did more before 8 am than she does in a typical morning.

All in all, this opportunity is something that she won't soon forget and was honored to be selected as a "Principal for the Day."
