TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A Tallahassee first responder is back from a national training program helping authorities learn how to respond to national emergencies.
Ina Leinas, a Tallahassee EMS Coordinator, participated in the National Disaster Medical System training in Alabama.
During the past week, Leinas got the opportunity to learn how to support communities with medical care during disasters and public health emergencies.
She was the only one from the Tallahassee area to attend the training, and is looking forward to using her new skills in the Capital City.
"It doesnt matter where we go or who we may end up working with, we know the system we know the equipment, we know the standards and procedures and how to get the work done," explains Leinas," and I think that's the biggest benefit to the people of the United States".
Everyone is also trained to be part of a coordinated federal response to a disaster.
About 5,000 first responders from around the country have already participated in the program.
