TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Authorities say a routine traffic stop in Leon County turned violent when a driver led them on a chase, tried to run over responding deputies and rammed into a patrol car.
According to court documents, Leon County deputies stopped a car at the intersection of Capital Circle SW and Frontal Road on Thursday evening.
Deputies approached the vehicle and identified the driver as 36-year-old Laura Ebbs and the passenger as 40-year-old Markeith Dubose. Documents say they were stopped for an expired vehicle registration.
While they were collecting their information, documents say the vehicle slowly started moving and suddenly drove off, leading deputies on a chase. Minutes later, the car came to a stop on Seasons Lane.
Deputies then approached the vehicle again, but this time they told Ebbs to turn the car off.
Instead, Ebbs put her car in reverse and unsuccessfully tried to run them over, according to court documents.
As the car continued reversing, Ebbs got out of the car while it was running, crashing it into a patrol car.
She then tried to run away from the scene, but deputies immediately stopped her.
Meanwhile, documents say Dubose stayed inside the car the whole time, even as it crashed into the patrol car. No one was injured in the crash.
Deputies then searched the car and found 9.9 grams of meth on the passenger’s side and a plastic bag containing cocaine.
When they searched Dubose, they found an additional bag of meth on him.
Both Ebbs and Dubose were arrested and transported to the Leon County Detention Facility.
Ebbs is being charged with aggravated assault on a LEO. Dubose is being charged for possession of meth and cocaine.
