TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - The Leon County Sheriff's office hosted its first Hispanic Resource Festival on Saturday.

Hundreds of people throughout Saturday afternoon came to Fred George Greenway and Park to spend time with deputies, enjoy live music, and even get a haircut.

Sergeant Tersa Howard says events like these can help build a bond between the Hispanic community and law enforcement.

"We want to interact with every part of the community, but the Hispanic community they don't, unfortunately because of the language barrier or because they are afraid of law enforcement from their country or of their immigration status, so they may be afraid to come to law enforcement, so we want to build that trust," said Howard.

Howard says LCSO hopes to make this an annual event in September.
