TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A Leon County deputy who was declared to be at fault for a crash last year is facing disciplinary action.

The Leon County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Crash Review Board has completed its review of a September 2017 crash involving Deputy Joshua Porter.

After an investigation, it was determined that Porter was traveling north in the south bound lanes of Capital Circle NE near North Pointe Blvd, causing a crash. The impact of the crash then caused the patrol car to jump a curb and hit a parked vehicle.

Documents note that while Porter had his emergency sirens activated, he was still at fault for failing to use due care. Both Deputy Porter and the other driver involved in the crash were hospitalized for minor injures.

As part of Deputy Porter's discipline, the board has decided to take the following actions:

  1. Deputy Porter has been suspended from driving Leon County Sheriff’s Office vehicles, on or off-duty, for 30 working days
  2. He must attend and complete remedial training in emergency vehicle operations
  3. He must attend and complete the “Below 100” course
  4. He will receive a letter of counseling
  5. His privilege to drive LCSO vehicles will not be restored until the completion of the training listed above

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A Leon County deputy has been treated after being involved in a car crash while responding to a call.

The Leon County Sheriff's Office says that the deputy, now identified as Deputy Joshua Porter, was responding to a call on Tuesday to assist a TPD officer who was involved in an altercation when the crash occurred.

They note that Deputy Porter had his emergency lights on while responding to the call.

The Sheriff's Office believes there was only one other car involved in the crash.

There were injuries in both cars, though Deputy Porter only sustained minor injuries. He was later treated and released.

They say it's an ongoing investigation so details of the crash cannot be released at this time.
