LOWNDES COUNTY, Fla. (WTXL) - Law enforcement agencies from all across the state came together in Lowndes County for Operation Southern Shield, which is an effort to pump the brakes on speeding in five southeastern states.
Georgia State Patrol says that I-75 near the Georgia-Florida state line is a high-speed spot, where they tend to focus efforts on getting people to slow down.
Troopers say they don't pull people over for the money, but for the safety of all parties involved.
Working many accidents, day in and day out, GSP say being called to a fatal accident can be rough on an officer, deputy, or trooper.
Operation Southern Shield will continue throughout the rest of this week.
Law enforcement says the efforts won't stop there, as they will continue to be a presence out in the community to get drivers to let off the pedal.
