Interviews Set for Judge Hawkins' Empty Seat on Leon County Court

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) -- The Second Circuit Judicial Nominating Commission will interview applicants for a vacancy on the Leon County court. 

The vacancy comes after Judge Judith Hawkins was removed from the bench in October of last year, following a decision by a Florida Supreme Court.

They say she sold religious books, study guides, and other publications to lawyers and staffers at the county courthouse as part of her business, Gaza Road Ministries.

It was originally recommended she be suspended without pay for three months, fined $17,000, and reprimanded, but the Supreme Court says she was deceitful and dishonest during her hearing, and decided to remove her from the bench.

The interviews to fill the position will begin on January 26th.

The commission will be taking comments on the qualifications on any of the applicants. You can send those comments to:

The commission will be considering 13 different people for the job. Interviews will be at the following times:
