TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Hundreds of law enforcement officers from across Florida gathered at the state capitol Monday, remembering 10 of their colleagues who died in the line of duty in 2017, along with four officers who died years ago.
During an hour-long ceremony, bagpipes played 'Amazing Grace', while survivors placed roses on a flower-covered memorial, honoring their loved ones.
There was also a 21 gun salute, and helicopters flew over capitol courtyard.
Erica Reynolds' dad, Scott Raykow, was a Miami Beach police officer, killed on the job in 1988.
Nearly 30 years later, she says her family still feels the loss, and aches for the family members of those killed last year.
"It never gets easier or less emotional, but I think what becomes more apparent is just that no matter how much time goes on, the support and love of law enforcement families and brothers in blue, are always there," said Reynolds.
Monday's ceremony was the 36th annual event honoring fallen officers.
Three members of law enforcement have already died in Florida this year.
That includes two members of the Gilchrist County Sheriff's Office who were shot and killed less than two weeks ago while they were eating lunch.
