TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - With Thanksgiving just days away, the holiday travel crush is set to be the busiest it's been in more than a dozen years.

AAA predicts that upwards of 54 million Americans will travel 50 miles or more away from home this Thanksgiving.

That's a nearly five percent jump from last year and the highest number since 2005.

"We'll have additional staff on duty of course, all of our amenities will be available, food services, food and beverage, gift shops, and all those things will be open for you," said Jim Durwin with Tallahassee International Airport. "This is our busiest time of year for airports, so we look forward to all our customers coming through our doors."

If you're one of the more than 48 million Americans traveling by car, you could be in for a particularly long journey.

Global Mobility Analytics Company, INRIX, predicts travel times in the nation's most congested cities could be up to four times longer than normal.
