TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Today is Go Red for Women Day.

February is designated as American Heart Month. On this first Friday people all over the nation come together to wear red with the common goal to educate their community about heart health.

Heart disease is one of the leading causes of death for men and women in the United States.

But health officals say heart disease can be prevented by living a healthy lifestyle.

WTXL ABC 27's Jada Williams was live Friday morning to provide tips from a local doctor.

A healthy lifestyle is the main way to maintain a healthy heart.

Listen to yourself, listen to your history, exercise tolerance, risk factor profile-- other diseases you have like high blood pressure and familial history,

Dr. Shayibu Harruna, an interventional cardiologist, also says exercise tolerance is a determining factor that it may be time to see a doctor about your heart health.

Capital Regional Medical Center has everything from prevention to acute care to rehab to tackle the issue.
