TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) -- A grand jury will decide if Officer Zackari Jones was justified in a shooting that left a man dead at Lake Ella back in March.
Lauren Hintman, who had just arrived at the scene with her friends when the scene unfolded, explained what she saw happened.
"Immediately after the gunshots we heard sirens and cops got here fast, and then we ran over, there was a guy laying on the ground," recalls Hintman. "The cop shot him three times, no one really knows why, but people are saying he had a gun and was waving it around."
64-year-old Garland Lee Wingo I was pronounced dead at the scene. According to TPD, the officers tried talking to him but something happened, causing one of the officers to pull out his weapon and fire at the man.
Officer Jones was placed on paid administrative leave after the shooting.
The grand jury is expected to convene on May 6th.
