GRADY COUNTY, Ga. (WTXL) - Baseball great Jackie Robinson would have been 100-years-old Thursday and organizations in Grady County are gearing up for a big celebration.

In previous years, the Jackie Robinson Boys and Girls Club of Cairo-Grady County hosted an friendly baseball game at the field across from the center.

This year, the event will be moved to Cairo High School, where the kids in the club will get to dress in baseball gear, and meet the Cairo High School Baseball team.

For Cairo and Grady County, Jackie Robinson was more than just a baseball player, he is a hero.

"To achieve victory, there's got to be some sacrifices. We teach our children in order to achieve victory or your goals, you're going to go through some ups and some downs," said Stephen Francis, Club Director of Jackie Robinson Boys and Girls Club, Cairo-Grady County. "You've got to keep pushing. You've got to keep fighting. You've got to have that dream and that goal set high so you'll be able to reach it like Jackie Robinson did."

The community is invited out to Jackie Robinson's 100th birthday celebration on Thursday. It starts at 4:00 p.m. at the Cairo High School baseball field.
