TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Florida Governor Ron DeSantis spoke to members of the press from inside the Capitol Friday morning making another big announcement in his first week of office.
In an early Friday morning announcement, DeSantis announced that he is suspending Okaloosa County Superintendent Mary Beth Jackson.
The suspension is following a State Attorney's Office recommendation regarding alleged child abuse under her leadership.
"Several grand jury reports have been very scathing about her conduct and her dereliction of duty," said DeSantis. "Those grand jurors recommended that the Department of Education look at ways to hold her accountable."
DeSantis has appointed Assistant Superintendent of Curriculum and Instruction Markus Chambers to replace Jackson.
DeSantis also took the time to reflect on his first couple of days as governor, address climate change, and border wall funding.
