ATLANTA (AP) - The Georgia Department of Human Services is offering residents help with winter heating bills.
Georgia DHS officials say residents age 65 and older who are homebound may apply for the Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program until Dec. 1. Other eligible families may begin applying for assistance on Dec. 1.
The LIHEAP program is federally funded and helps low-income and elderly people pay power bills through April 30. Officials say depending on income, those who qualify typically receive between $310 and $350 toward their heating bills.
To qualify, a family's household income must be equal to or less than 60 percent of the median income for Georgia families.
Applicants must provide heating bills and information on household residents including citizenship status and proof of income.
