Augusta Man Gets Life Sentence for Molesting 6-Year-Old Girl

AUGUSTA, Ga. (AP) — An Augusta man has been sentenced to life in prison after a jury convicted him of sexually assaulting a 6-year-old girl.

The Augusta Chronicle reports (http://bit.ly/1HqmYsp ) 30-year-old Johnny Lee Vaughns was convicted by a Richmond County jury Thursday of rape, aggravated sexual battery and child molestation. It was his second trial. A judge declared a mistrial in the case last summer after jurors deadlocked.

The victim testified during the trial that Vaughns showed her a pornographic video in November 2012. She said days later he molested her.

Evidence showed Vaughns later told sheriff's investigators: "She's not an average 6-year-old. She's grown." He had also written the victim's mother an apology letter that said he had a sexual demon.
