PALM HARBOR, Fla. (AP) - A GoFundMe campaign asking for donations for a Tampa-area firefighter arrested in his son's hot car death was no longer active Sunday afternoon.
Troy Whitaker, 41, of Palm Harbor, faces an aggravated manslaughter charge in the death of 23-month-old Lawson.
On Sunday morning, a GoFundMe campaign had raised over $6,500 for Whitaker's legal fees. The page identified him as a firefighter paramedic with Hillsborough County Fire Rescue and said the legal burden "is not indicative of who this family is."
Hours later, the page was no longer available. Neither GoFundMe officials nor the man who had launched the page immediately responded to messages from The Associated Press.
Authorities say Whitaker left Lawson in his pickup truck for eight hours Friday. Whitaker was released on $50,000 bail early Saturday.
