TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A Tallahassee native and Florida State student has been named regional champion of LongHorn Steakhouse's Steak Master Series.

Nicholas Burnette, a Grill Master at LongHorn Steakhouse on North Monroe Street, was named regional champion of the brand’s Steak Master Series, a culinary competition where the restaurant’s top-performing grilling experts compete for the title of national champion.

Burnette is one of 57 team members across the country to achieve this recognition out of the more than 5,000 who were invited to participate in the competition.

When he graduates with a hospitality degree from Florida State University, he hopes to move into management with LongHorn.

Burnette, who has been cooking since he was 16 years old, says if he had a Grill Master nickname, it would be "Flick of the Wrist."

Burnette will soon be competing in the semi-final rounds for the chance to become one of seven finalists that compete in the finals at LongHorn’s headquarters in Orlando in June.
