Four Cars Crash in Suwannee County, Driver Cites Brake Failure

SUWANNEE COUNTY, FL. (WTXL)-- Four cars were involved in an accident Friday night on US 129 in Suwannee County.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, the accident happened when one of the vehicles drivers, Jery Hires, failed to brake when traveling south down the highway.

Reports say that when the two cars in front of Hires slowed due to traffic, he failed to brake and swerved to avoid collision. After striking one of the cars in front of him, Hires went in to the Northbound lane and hit the car of, Richard George Jr, causing serious injuries to the driver.

After hitting the car, Hires continued traveling and came struck another vehicle, hitting it in the left rear.

FHP says Hires is claiming brake failure as the cause, but is charged with reckless driving. Hires along with two of the other drivers received minor injuries and George was transported to Shands in Live Oak to receive medical attention.
