Former Gov. Crist attends Democratic dinner

Posted

LAKEWOOD RANCH, Fla. (AP) - Former Gov. Charlie Crist, who was once a Republican, is at one of his first events as a Democrat.

Crist is scheduled to be the keynote speaker at the Manatee County Democrats annual dinner on Friday night.

Organizers say that more than 300 people are in attendance. Early in the evening, Crist posed with people for photos and signed autographs.

Crist was elected governor as a Republican in 2006 and ran unsuccessfully for the U.S. Senate as an independent in 2010, losing a three-way contest to Republican Marco Rubio.

Crist switched parties in December 2012. There has been widespread speculation that he will challenge Gov. Rick Scott, a Republican, in 2014.
