TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - One former girl scout turned rocket scientist is hoping to inspire little girls with her new memoir.
Sylvia Acevedo was in the Capital City on Saturday signing books for young readers, many of them local girl scouts.
Acevedo's book, called Path To The Stars, shares her story about overcoming life's obstacles, eventually getting her masters in engineering and going on to become a rocket scientist for NASA.
"Once you realize that the future is being remade around data and we want to make sure girls aren't just users of technology but also creators, inventors, designers," said Acevedo. "And girl scouts are focused on making sure girls have the skills that help them succeed and also build the community workforce."
Dozens of local girls lined up to get a picture with Acevedo.
She hopes to show kids they can accomplish anything they set their minds to.
And many of them say they want to be just like her when they grow up.
