TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL)-- Valdosta State University and Florida A&M University kicked off their football season on Saturday. And in Tallahassee, things were no different for the Florida State University Seminoles football team.

The team took the field at Doak Campbell Stadium to match up against the Texas State Bobcats. Thousands of people, in addition, to the students already in the Capital City flooded the seats at the stadium waiting for kick off.

Doak Campbell Stadium is named for the FSU president at the time of its construction. It holds more than 82,000 fans and is one of the top 20 largest stadiums in the NCAA. The field is named for legendary football coach Bobby Bowden.

The first game was a time to celebrate for fans, students, faculty, and alumni. But local business had a reason to celebrate as well.

The owner of Mike's Beer Barn explains how this time of year is important for sales.

"Probably the sixth or seventh busiest weekends of the year when we have our home games. We employ 25 people. Sales obviously go up tremendously on the weekend. Which is about twice of what we normally do, 3 times of what we normally do on a non football weekend," said Michael Raynor.
