Florida's Guardian ad Litem Program reaches volunteer goal

Posted

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. -- Florida's Guardian ad Litem Program has announced that it has exceeded its goal of more than 10,000 volunteers.

The program has volunteers who advocate for abused, neglected and abandoned children in courts throughout the state. Executive director Alan Abramowitz says that a count of total volunteers at the end of February shows that 10,056 are trained and certified.

Most volunteers represent two or more abused children, visiting them at least once a month, and advising child welfare judges on options for assuring the child's best interests.

Anyone age 18 or over can become a volunteer by participating in a local training course and meeting other qualifications.
