LAKELAND, Fla. (AP) - Police officers in central Florida fatally shot a Pennsylvania man wanted on sexual battery and kidnapping charges.

The shooting happened Thursday outside a Lakeland restaurant.

Police say two detectives were chasing 42-year-old David Cuevas when he reached into his waistband, turned toward them and pulled a pistol.

The Ledger of Lakeland (http://bit.ly/1AQJ1lS ) reports Cuevas was wanted on an arrested warrant issued in January for armed sexual battery and kidnapping involving a Lakeland woman he was involved with.

Cuevas fled to Pennsylvania, where he was arrested on the Lakeland warrant last month. He bonded out of jail and started texting the woman again. She called police, who helped her arrange a meeting for Thursday. When Cuevas saw the officers, he started running.

An investigation continues.
