TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Dr. Elmira Mangum is now officially slated to take over as the next President of Florida A&M University.
Dr. Mangum was confirmed Thursday afternoon by the Florida University System's Board of Governors, at a meeting on the campus of the University of South Florida in Tampa.
In a statement released through Florida A&M University, Dr. Mangum expressed her gratitude for the appointment.
“I am honored and pleased by the recommendation of the FAMU Board of Trustees, and the faculty, students and staff that expressed their faith in me to become the next president of Florida A&M University,” Mangum said. “I am thankful for the opportunity to come and continue the legacy that was established many years ago.”
Dr. Mangum also laid out her vision for the future of FAMU, touting the university as a gateway of opportunity for students looking to succeed in the 21st century job market.
“The goal is for FAMU to remain true to its mission of being an access point into the academic system, while emphasizing instruction, research and engagement,” Mangum said. “Parents send their students to us with great expectations and they will be met with great expectations to succeed.”
Dr. Mangum, who was selected by FAMU's Board of Trustees after a nationwide search lasting more than a year, is expected to take over the University's top position on April 1.
