TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - Federal workers with agencies such as the Federal Corrections Institute and the TSA rallied at the State Capitol Thursday, calling for an end to the government shutdown.
The crowd chanted and held signs that read, "End the shutdown," "Proud federal worker," and "Fund our prisons."
Federal workers said they've been forced to work without pay since the shutdown and now many are wondering how they will survive with no end in sight.
"To make us suffer because of a wall. That is really disheartening. That is really sad," said Federal Worker Temeka Hunter. "A lot of us have families and if we have two families working and no income coming into the house, what do they expect us to do? Bills still go on. Things still have to get paid."
Tallahassee Commissioner Jeremy Matlow said he asked the city manager to defer utility bills for federal workers until they receive another pay check.
