Tallahassee, Fla (WTXL) - In an emergency conference call today, FAMU Board of Trustees said they don't support dividing the engineering program at FSU.
There has been talks that the program could possibly split in order to pursue a top 25 ranking. The plan to split came up in state senate budget proposals.
The idea is to let FAMU keep the existing building and current state funding, and give 13 million dollars to FSU for its own stand-alone engineering program. The two universities share the building and faculty for the college of engineering.
Today, Doctor Mangum said FAMU cannot sustain an engineering program alone if the two schools separate. The joint FAMU-FSU college of engineering was created in 1983.
