TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - It's a story that's going viral on the internet and guess what: it's fake news.
The inflammatory article from America's Last Line of Defense, claims that Florida Governor Rick Scott was taken by lifeflight to Mercy General in Sarasota.
It doesn't even take a call to the Governor's office to figure out that the article is completely bogus. Just taking a peek at the about section down at the bottom of the website says it all:
Going one step further, Scott put on his twitter that he was scheduled to give an update on Irma at the Coast Guard Air Station in Miami, making it impossible for him to be in Sarasota.
"I’ll be giving an #Irma update from the Coast Guard Air Station Miami shortly." - Rick Scott (@FLGovScott) 9/11/17 1:56 p.m.
The article even goes so far as to say that President Donald Trump tweeted his condolences, when there's no evidence of this happening.
The article, published by Flagg Eagleton to the 'Potato Cakes from Arby's' section, cites Scott's chief of staff, Morton Valdy, as the source of the information.
Problem is, Valdy isn't even Scott's chief of staff. Jackie Schutz Zeckman is.
The tale doesn't stop there. The website even tried to post an 'update' saying that Rick Scott's wife took him off life support, none of which is true.
