EASTPOINT, Fla. (WTXL) - Twenty-four surplus travel trailers that Florida bought for Limerock Wildfire victims could be delivered to Eastpoint as soon as Wednesday.
The Florida Division of Emergency Management coordinated the purchase and transport of the trailers from Homestead to Eastpoint.
The trailers were bought at bulk pricing from the federal General Services Administration for $8,500 each (a 37 percent negotiated discount) by Franklin County.
The use of the trailers will be managed through a deal with the Capital Area Community Action Agency.
Gov. Rick Scott said that although the temporary housing for the families is great news efforts will not turn to long-term recovery. "We will make sure that each family affected by the wildfire can fully recover," Scott said.
Franklin County Sheriff AJ Smith said the State Emergency Response Team has been a great partner.
More than 100 people were displaced by the June 24 wildfire burned about 820 acres and destroyed 36 homes. State officials say the wildfire resulted from a prescribed burn ordered by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
