TALLAHASSEE, FL (WTXL) - The Leon County Sheriff's Office says they have found the reported suspicious person seen talking to children last week off of Hawks Hill Trail, and determined he was not actually suspicious.
Deputies say that thanks to detailed descriptions from the children and a tip from a community member, they were able to determine that the person in question did not pose a threat to the children, he was simply trying to locate his lost shoes.
A warning was released by deputies last week saying a man was seen by an adult talking to two children riding their bikes on Hawks Hill Trail and Briar Creek.
Deputies say after the warning and description of the person were sent out, a citizen called them saying they had seen a person matching that description at a nearby construction site.
They then uncovered that on the day of the incident, the man had removed his shoes, and put on work boots so he could pour concrete.
Co-workers told deputies they had moved the shoes and forgotten to tell him, so when he couldn't find the shoes and saw the children riding their bikes, he asked them if they had seen the shoes.
Deputies say that no criminal activity occurred and the subject did not pose a threat to the children.
