TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - FEMA has extended the deadline to apply for disaster assistance related to Hurricane Michael.
You now have until Dec.17 at midnight, giving survivors more time to register.
The agency believes many people who are eligible still haven't signed up.
"FEMA is here to support the under-insured and those who don't have home insurance. Disaster assistance is available for those who may need some replacement of personal property or basic home repair," said FEMA Media Relations Specialist, Ashleigh Martin.
Temporary housing or FEMA mobile homes are also available.
Once you apply, FEMA will reach out to you within three to five days to schedule an appointment. Within a week, an inspector will come to your property, assess damages. After that FEMA will send you a letter that breaks down what you're eligible for.
If you get a letter saying you're ineligible and you disagree there's a 60 day appeal window.
Representatives say since Hurricane Michael, they've received more then 100,000 registrants, with close to 7,000 of them in Leon county.
"118 million dollars has been provided in grants assistance. Right here in Leon County, over 800 thousand dollars has been provided in disaster assistance," said Martin.
FEMA said some people don't apply because they think they're not eligible when they really are. So apply if you've been impacted in any way.

Hurricane Michael survivors in Florida now have until Monday, Dec. 17, to register for disaster assistance.
Homeowners and renters may be eligible for assistance to cover essential disaster-related needs not covered by insurance.
This may include grants to cover basic repairs to make their homes habitable, funds to cover disaster-related personal property losses, and various forms of temporary housing assistance.

Disaster survivors who need help with the registration process can visit any disaster recovery center to speak face to face with representatives from FEMA, SBA, HUD and other agencies. To locate the nearest center, visit FEMA.gov/DRC or call the FEMA helpline.
Survivors who miss the registration deadline of Dec. 17 must provide written justification before their registration can be processed. The letter must include details on the extenuating circumstances that prevented them from applying on time.
