TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (WTXL) - A Crawfordville man arrested after running away from Tallahassee Police Department officers investigating car break-ins faces charges of grand theft.

Kane Riley Gaby, 22, remained in the Leon County Detention Center on Monday on 25 counts, including ones for burglary, grand theft, and loitering or prowling. His bond totaled $70,000.

On Dec. 15, 2018, police responded to a resident's report that two people were breaking into a neighbor's car in the Altoona Drive area.

The officers saw Gaby flee and, after a short foot chase, found him hiding in bushes on Martinwood Court, according to a probable cause affidavit. Officers said they found on him a black latex glove and stolen property from a burglarized vehicle.

Officers also found another man inside a car near where Gaby had fled, and in that car officers saw a shotgun sticking out of a gun bag.

While the offiers were on the scene, the owner of the shotgun walked up, saw the shotgun in the car and identified the gun and its case as his.

Other people in the neighborhood also came up to the officers and said their vehicles parked in their driveways had been entered by Gaby and the second man.

After securing a search warrant, the officers found in the vehicle purses, wallets, handbags, sunglasss, power tools, work tools, backpacks, jewelry, make-up bags, a Murray weed eater, money and other items that were determined to be stolen, court documents said.
